Day 2 of Modi’s visit to Varanasi: PM to inaugurate the second “saffron” Vande Bharat, a 402 km stretch of the eastern freight corridor, now
PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the second Varanasi-New Delhi Vande Bharat train in conjunction with the start of other development and infrastructure projects.
On a two-day visit to Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, is Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He began a number of infrastructure and development initiatives in the city on the first day, such as the Kanyakumari-Varanasi Tamil Sangamam train and the translation of Thirukkural, Manimekalai, and other ancient Tamil literature into several languages and braille. Along with taking part in the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, the Prime Minister also visited the Viksit Bharat Yatra Van and Quiz event, where he spoke with people who were beneficiaries of different government programs.
On the second day of Prime Minister Modi’s visit, the city will host another round of inaugurations. He is going to inaugurate the second Vande Bharat train service, which runs from Varanasi to New Delhi. In order to stimulate the logistics industry, he will also inaugurate the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) from New Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction to New Bhaupur Junction.
Vande Bharat, Second Varanasi-New Delhi
At 2:15 PM today, the second iteration of the sophisticated semi-high-speed Vande Bharat train will begin service. The second Vande Bharat train would have several characteristics and be saffron in color, according to the Northern Railway. “The train has superior passenger amenities such as onboard Wi-Fi infotainment, GPS-based passenger information system, plush interiors, bio-vacuum toilets with touch-free conveniences, diffused LED lighting, charging points beneath every seat, individual touch-based reading lights and concealed roller blinds,” said a statement.
The train will next travel through Prayagraj, Kanpur Central, Itawa, Tundla, and Aligarh before arriving in New Delhi at the appointed times after being flagged off.
On December 20, 2023, the Vande Bharat Express is expected to open for regular business. Train schedule: Prayagraj at 07:34 AM, Kanpur Central at 09:30 AM, and New Delhi at 2:05 PM. Train departs Varanasi at 6:00 AM.
The train is scheduled to leave New Delhi at 3 PM, arrive at Kanpur Central at 7 PM, Prayagraj at 9 PM, and Varanasi at 11 PM on the return journey.
402 kilometers designated for freight in the east
Today, PM Modi will also inaugurate the eastern DFC’s Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction and New Bhaupur Junction. This stretch of the corridor, which cost ₹10,903 crore to construct, runs along the Delhi-Howrah rail line and passes through the Uttar Pradesh districts of Chandauli, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Kanpur Nagar, and Kanpur Dehat.
The corridor links the power plants in north India with the vital coal fields of West Bengal and Jharkhand, notably the Eastern Coalfields Limited, Central Coalfields Limited, and Bharat Coking Coal Limited.
Yatra Viksit Bharat Sankalp – Village Version
In addition to introducing development initiatives, PM Modi will take part in today at 1 pm in the local version of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra. He will open the Swarved Mahamandir in Varanasi at 11:30 a.m.

Varanasi’s Namo Ghat on Sunday, Modi inaugurated the second iteration of Kashi Tamil Sangamam. The government’s Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Yuva Sangam initiative includes the cultural exchange event. Between Varanasi and Kanyakumari, he also signaled the start of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express.
He also spoke with those who benefited from government programs on the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra. “India will definitely become ‘Viksit’ by 2047 if the 140 crore countrymen take a resolve to make the nation developed,” he declared in his speech.
