How to access Gemini Advanced, Google’s AI chatbot available exclusively through subscription.
ChatGPT Plus, Google’s response to the demand for an enhanced experience, offers access to Gemini Advanced, its latest and most potent chatbot. Discover how to subscribe and gain immediate access to this powerful tool.
Google has recently upgraded its AI chatbot, introducing the advanced Gemini Advanced model. To access this new chatbot, users can subscribe to the AI Premium plan, a new tier within the Google One service, which is the company’s cloud backup service.
Priced at $20 per month, the AI Premium plan not only provides standard Google One benefits but also grants users access to the powerful Gemini Ultra 1.0 model. Interestingly, this subscription fee aligns with the cost of OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus, which offers access to the GPT-4 model at the same price point.
Google has rebranded its AI offerings under the name “Gemini,” replacing the previous chatbot known as “Bard.” For users who prefer not to pay, Google still offers its more basic chatbot, the Gemini Pro model, free of charge.
Although glimpses of Google’s Gemini Ultra model were showcased in demos several months ago, the enhanced version was not initially accessible to the public during the initial Gemini rollout. Now, the more capable iteration, Gemini Advanced, has been introduced.
Similar to OpenAI’s GPT-4, Gemini Advanced is expected to excel in understanding the nuances and context of user prompts, making it more proficient in tasks like coding compared to its predecessors. Currently, Gemini Advanced is optimized for responding to prompts in English, with plans for additional language support in future iterations.
If you’re intrigued and considering trying out Google’s latest chatbot, and are curious about how the subscription plan stacks up against ChatGPT Plus, this guide provides everything you need to know to get started with Gemini Advanced.
To access Google's Gemini Advanced, follow these steps
Google has opted not to provide standalone subscriptions for Gemini Advanced. Instead, it is accessible through a newly introduced tier within Google One called “AI Premium.” If you don’t have a Google account, you’ll need to create one before enrolling to use the chatbot.
For existing Google One subscribers, upgrading to the new plan, which incorporates chatbot access, is an option. For a more comprehensive understanding of the offerings at various tiers, refer to WIRED’s guide to Google One.
To switch to the upgraded paid version of Gemini, ensure that you are logged into your Google account and visit the Gemini chatbot homepage.
Once on the AI tool’s home screen, click on the hamburger icon located in the top left corner. Next, select “Upgrade to Gemini Advanced.” You will be redirected to a new page to subscribe through Google One.
The current cost of the AI Premium plan is $20 per month, and Google provides a two-month free trial for those uncertain about the subscription. After refreshing your browser tab, you will notice Gemini Advanced at the top of the page, now serving as your new default chatbot experience.
