UGC NET Syllabus 2024

UGC NET 2024 Syllabus: The University Grants Commission establishes the UGC NET syllabus for each session. The UGC NET syllabus for the December 2024 cycle will shortly be made available online by the NTA/UGC. If there is no modification or update, the UGC NET curriculum, however, will not change for the UGC NET 2024 December cycle. In any case, if the UGC NET curriculum is amended for any subject(s), the NTA shall release a formal announcement along with the modified syllabus. 

The UGC NET curriculum is broken up into two portions, namely UGC NET Paper 1 curriculum and UGC NET Paper 2 Syllabus, respectively. All candidates who will sit for the UGC NET test in 2024 will use the same UGC NET Paper 1 syllabus. The UGC NET paper 2 syllabus, however, differs depending on the subject. Paper 2 asks questions about the candidates’ chosen fields of study. There are 50 MCQs in Paper 1 and 100 in Paper 2, both of which must be answered within the allotted three hours.

The first step in exam preparation is understanding the UGC NET 2024 Papers 1 and 2 syllabus. Candidates must be conversant with the most recent UGC NET test pattern and curriculum in order to prepare well for the exam. The UGC NET 2023 exam will be given for 83 courses and used to determine students’ eligibility for the job of Assistant Professor and/or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. 

UGC NET Syllabus: Paper 1 and Paper 2

The NTA updated the UGC NET syllabus for Papers 1 and 2 in June 2019. The UGC NET syllabus for all 83 subjects has remained same since 2019 in all respects. The addition of the new topic “Hindu Studies” for the UGC NET Paper 2 in 2022 is the only modification.

Unit-I: Teaching Aptitude

  • Teaching: Concept, objectives, levels of teaching (memory, understanding, and reflective), characteristics, and basic requirements
  • Learner’s characteristics: Characteristics of adolescent and adult learners (academic, social, emotional and cognitive), individual differences
  • Factors affecting teaching related to Teacher, Learner, Support material, Instructional facilities, Learning environment, and Institution
  • Methods of teaching in higher learning institutions: Teacher-centred vs learner-centered methods; offline vs online methods (Swayam, Swayamprabha, MOOCs, etc.).
  • Teaching support system: Traditional, modern, and ICT based
  • Evaluation systems: Elements and types of evaluation, evaluation in Choice Based Credit Systems in higher education, computer-based testing, innovations in evaluation systems

Unit-II: Research Aptitude

  • Research: Meaning, types, and characteristics, positivism and post-positivistic approach to research
  • Methods of research: Experimental, descriptive, historical, qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Steps of research
  • Thesis and article writing: Format and styles of referencing
  • Application of ICT in research
  • Research ethics

Unit-III: Comprehension

A passage of text is given. Questions are asked from the passage which needs to be answered.

Unit-IV: Communication

  • Communication: Meaning, types, and characteristics of communication
  • Effective communication: Verbal and non-verbal, inter-cultural and group communications, classroom communication
  • Barriers to effective communication
  • Mass-media and society

Unit-V: Mathematical Reasoning and Aptitude

  • Types of reasoning
  • Number series, letter series, codes, and relationships
  • Mathematical aptitude (fraction, time & distance, ratio, proportion and percentage, profit and loss, interest and discounting, averages etc.)

Unit-VI: Logical Reasoning

  • Understanding the structure of arguments: Argument forms, the structure of categorical propositions, mood and figure, formal and informal fallacies, uses of language, connotations, and denotations of terms, the classical square of opposition
  • Evaluating and distinguishing deductive and inductive reasoning
  • Analogies
  • Venn diagram: Simple and multiple uses for establishing the validity of arguments
  • Indian Logic: Means of knowledge
  • Pramanas: Pratyaksha (Perception), Anumana (Inference), Upamana (Comparison), Shabda (Verbal testimony), Arthapatti (Implication) and Anupalabddhi (Non-apprehension)
  • Structure and kinds of Anumana (inference), Vyapti (invariable relation), Hetvabhasas (fallacies of inference)

Unit-VII: Data Interpretation

  • Sources, acquisition and classification of data

UGC NET Paper 2 Syllabus

Subject-specific and depending on the candidates’ chosen disciplines, the UGC NET Paper 2 test. Paper 2 has 100 questions and awards two marks for each accurate response. The highest possible score for Paper 2 is 200. Since paper 2 is for specialization, candidates must begin preparing for it as early as their university years. UGC NET Exam Pattern

Candidates must be familiar with the exam format in order to sit for the UGC NET 2023 exam. The exam format will aid applicants in understanding the UGC NET examination. Knowing the UGC NET 2023 exam format will help candidates prepare for the test more efficiently. The following is the exam format for the UGC NET 2023 exam:

UGC NET Marking Scheme
