The main library in Phoenix, Arizona, is the Burton Barr Central Library. It serves as the Phoenix Public Library’s administrative centre and main site. Burton Barr, the Republican Majority Leader in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1966 to 1986, is honoured by the name. One million volumes are in the library’s collection.
The structure was financed by a bond issue in 1988 and took the place of an adjacent facility from the 1950s on McDowell Road, which is now a component of the Phoenix Art Museum.
Will Bruder, who is renowned for drawing influence from the surrounding scenery, created the Burton Barr Central Library.
Built in 1995, it is a massive, curving copper structure that is 280,000 square feet in size and resembles a mesa—a mesa honouring the geography and copper honouring Arizona’s moniker as the “copper state.” Discover the one million books in the collection, which are arranged in five tiers. Take a trip in one of the three high-speed glass lifts, explore the 90-foot-tall skylit atrium, and see the ‘Crystal Canyon’, a transparent grand stairway that rises from a stunning reflecting pool.
Additionally, have a look at the massive fifth-floor reading area, which has been compared to a “detached aeroplane hangar. Here, on the summer solstice, blue skylights are positioned right above a row of columns, illuminating the tips at midday.
