WPL 2025 The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 is set to kick off on Friday,
Having clinched the trophy last season with a victory over Delhi Capitals in the final,
the Smriti Mandhana-led side will look to continue their winning momentum.
Indian cricket star Virat Kohli extended his best wishes to the RCB women’s team through a heartfelt video message.
Kohli expressed his admiration for their achievement and encouraged them to build on last season’s success.
“I would like to wish the women’s team all the very best for the upcoming WPL season.
It’s amazing what you did last year, and I just hope that you continue to ride that momentum and take that confidence into this tournament as well.
There’s no shortage of talent, as we saw last year. Now that the pressure of winning the first title is off your back,
you can go out there, express yourselves, and enjoy the support from fans all over India,” Kohli said in the video released by RCB.
The RCB women’s team made history last season by securing the franchise’s first-ever major title,
something their male counterparts have yet to achieve in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
However, the road to a second title won’t be easy.
RCB will have to cope without key players from their victorious campaign, including Sophie Devine,
who has taken a break from cricket for personal well-being,
as well as Sophie Molineux and Kate Cross, who are sidelined due to injuries.
Despite these challenges, the team remains determined as they begin their campaign against Gujarat Giants in Vadodara.
Meanwhile, on the men’s side,
RCB veteran Kohli also recently wished Rajat Patidar success after he was appointed the new captain ahead of IPL 2025.
Kohli, along with Patidar and pacer Yash Dayal, was retained by RCB before the franchise made significant additions at the
IPL 2025 mega auction, acquiring players like Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, Tim David, Josh Hazlewood, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to strengthen their squad.
RCB’s men’s team had a commendable IPL 2024 season, making it to the playoffs but falling short in the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals.
Kohli ended the tournament as the Orange Cap winner, amassing 741 runs in 15 matches at an impressive average of 61.75.
As WPL 2025 gets underway, all eyes will be on RCB Women to see if they can successfully defend their title and continue their dominance in the league.
